What an African Village Can Teach Us about Connection (FREE Printable Inside)

We learn so many lessons from one another. Oftentimes to explain the need for connection and, how teaching them ways that they specifically seek connection can heal them, I turn to examples from my own work or statistics.
Statistically speaking, more children are harming themselves due to loneliness and disconnected now more than ever.
But, we can also see the truth of this demonstrated in other cultures and even in nature.
Recently, I ran across the following:
In a tribe in Africa, when someone does something harmful, they take the person to the center of the village where the whole tribe comes and surrounds them. For two days, they will say to the person all the good things that they have done.
The tribe believes that each human being comes into the world as good. Each one of us only desiring safety, love, peace, and happiness. But sometimes, in the pursuit of these things, people make mistakes.
The community sees those mistakes as a cry for help. They unite then to lift that person, to reconnect that person with their true nature, to remind that person of who they really are until they fully remember the truth of which they had been temporarily disconnected: “I am good.”
THIS is the power of connection languages! It reminds our kids that they are never bad, or mean, or the embodiment of any of their actions or reactions. They are good. They are loved. They are humans surrounded by others who care about them and support them. They are members of a community that knows they matter.
